The Fun Art Professor
After several years of teaching arts enrichment classes in after-school programs, at a local museum and with Girl Scout troops, I was invited by my town's Recreation Department to create and implement a curriculum for a toddler program.
I was given the opportunity to design this program to be a primary introduction to the arts. Each session was themed and would be opened with either a song or a classic piece of children's literature, such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Then the toddlers would be guided through a series of approximately 6 art activities that tied in with the song or book.
Eventually, I came upon ideas to do with the toddlers, but couldn't find picture books that tied in with the art projects.
So I decided to write my own.
To date, I have written 17 picture books, with several more in the making. The books have all received a much positive response from students, parents, local art teachers and artists. I am currently in the process of seeking representation for my books.
In my blog, I will be sharing "fun art" ideas to do with young children, anecdotal musings on my parenting & teaching experiences, picture book recommendations and basic ideas on how to inspire & nurture creativity in young children.
